The Airports Authority of India has authorized the construction of a 600-meter underpass beneath the Begumpet airport runway. This regulatory clearance removes a major technical obstacle for a 5.4-kilometer elevated corridor designed to alleviate congestion on the National Highway 44 transit route.

Regulatory approval has been granted for the development of a six-lane subterranean passage beneath the runway of Begumpet airport. According to regional infrastructure officials, this structural solution was necessitated by aviation safety constraints that prohibit elevated frameworks in the immediate vicinity of active runways. The underpass is a critical component of a larger 5.4-kilometer elevated corridor project stretching from Paradise Junction to Military Dairy Farm Road.

The project aims to modernize the transit axis through Secunderabad, Tadbund, and Bowenpally. By opting for a sub-surface design, the transit authority avoids a hazardous sharp curve at Tadbund while maintaining the required clearance for airport operations. The Airports Authority of India, the national body responsible for creating, upgrading, and managing civil aviation infrastructure, issued the clearance following a technical feasibility assessment. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, the urban planning agency for the region, will oversee the integration of this link into the city’s broader transport network. This development is significant for the logistics and automotive sectors, as NH-44 serves as a primary artery for commercial freight moving through southern India.

For businesses and investors, the project promises improved supply chain efficiency and reduced operational delays caused by urban bottlenecks. The resolution of this technical impasse signals progress in the region’s long-term infrastructure roadmap, likely enhancing real estate values and commercial viability in the connected northern suburbs.
