The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport has launched a AED 2.85 billion ($776 million) infrastructure project connecting Saadiyat Island to Khalifa City. This strategic transit corridor aims to accommodate 88,000 vehicles daily, integrating smart technology and sustainable urban design to alleviate regional traffic congestion.

Abu Dhabi has commenced the first phase of a high-capacity transit project designed to bridge Saadiyat Island and Khalifa City through Umm Yifeenah Island. According to official disclosures, the AED 2,850 million development represents a critical expansion of the emirate's arterial road network. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), the government entity responsible for urban planning and municipal services in Abu Dhabi, is overseeing the project to ensure it meets international engineering benchmarks.

This development is significant as it addresses the logistical demands of Abu Dhabi's rapidly expanding residential and commercial districts. By creating a direct link between the cultural hub of Saadiyat and the mainland industrial and residential zones, the corridor will manage an estimated 88,000 vehicles per day. This increased capacity is essential for reducing bottlenecks and improving the overall efficiency of the capital's logistics and transport framework.

The project carries broader implications for the construction and technology sectors. Beyond traditional roadwork, the phase includes 8km of dedicated cycling and running paths, alongside the installation of 184 smart lighting poles. This integration of active transport and intelligent infrastructure aligns with regional sustainability goals. For investors and developers, the enhanced accessibility is likely to appreciate property values and stimulate commercial activity in the connected zones, signaling a continued government commitment to capital expenditure in the UAE's infrastructure market.
