Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), an Indian private transmission and power distribution company operating under the Adani Group, has been awarded an inter-state transmission project valued at approximately ₹85 billion in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The project “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” was secured through the Government of India's Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding framework, with project execution assigned to a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd., over a 30-month timeline.
The development entails installing 1,582 circuit kilometers of transmission lines alongside 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity. Key technical assets include a 4x1500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi in the Vizag region, and a 3x1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Khammam-II substation. This project elevates AESL’s total transmission network to 29,531 circuit kilometers and 133,675 MVA of transformation capacity, expanding its total transmission order book to over ₹800 billion.
This grid enhancement addresses the heavy power load requirements of energy-intensive industries planned near Vizag. The new infrastructure is engineered to deliver an estimated 4,500 MW of power, catering specifically to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities, as well as hyperscale data centers, artificial intelligence hubs, and digital infrastructure assets taking shape in the Pendurthi–Vizag corridor.
From an industry and policy perspective, establishing high-capacity grid connectivity is a crucial prerequisite for commercializing green hydrogen and green ammonia molecules in India.
