Alstom secures EUR 140 million, five-year contract extension for Atlanta airport people mover

Alstom has received a five-year, EUR 140 million contract extension to operate and maintain the Innovia automated people mover at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The agreement, effective upon signing, includes two one-year options and continues a partnership since 1980.

According to an official announcement, Alstom has been awarded a five-year extension to operate and maintain the Plane Train automated people mover (APM) at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), the world’s busiest airport.

The contract is valued at approximately EUR 140 million and includes two optional one-year extensions.

ATL serves as a major U.S. aviation hub. The scope covers 24/7 APM operation, power and electrification, vehicle and guideway maintenance, and facility cleaning. In 2025, the system transported a record 95 million passengers along its 2.8-mile underground tunnel connecting all concourses.

Alstom is also executing two capital projects at ATL: infrastructure upgrades and delivery of 63 Innovia APM R vehicles to increase train frequency and capacity. This development matters because ATL’s passenger volumes demand high-reliability transit, and the contract extension signals long-term operational stability.

For APM component suppliers, maintenance subcontractors, and rail technology vendors, the agreement creates sustained demand. Investors should note that Alstom’s FlexCare Operate portfolio, backed by over 40 years of APM experience, positions the company as the dominant private rail operator in U.S. airports, with more than 20 transportation customers nationwide. The contract also retains nearly 140 local skilled employees in Atlanta.
