Amazon India plans to invest over ₹ 28 billion in associate health, safety, and financial well-being. The initiative expands Project Ashray, insurance coverage, and AI-driven safety tools, while scaling its quick commerce arm, Amazon Now, to more cities.

Amazon India has announced a ₹ 28 billion investment to enhance workforce safety, health, and financial well-being, building on a ₹ 20 billion commitment in 2025. According to official disclosures, the funds will scale Project Ashray air-conditioned rest stops serving over 150,000 delivery associates monthly across 100 locations and upgrade medical and accident insurance for delivery partners.

The company is also expanding its quick commerce service, Amazon Now, which currently operates over 300 micro-fulfilment centres across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, adding nearly two sites per day. Plans include doubling the footprint in existing cities and entering new markets this year. This development signals intensifying competition in India’s quick commerce and logistics sectors, where companies like Zepto, Blinkit, and Flipkart are also scaling rapidly.

For tier 2 and 3 city markets, improved fulfilment infrastructure could boost e-commerce penetration and support local small businesses. AI tools being deployed such as route complexity models and driver safety alerts set new operational benchmarks for workforce management. Investors and logistics firms should monitor how these labour-centric investments impact retention, accident rates, and last-mile efficiency.

Amazon India, a subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc., operates one of the country’s largest e-commerce logistics networks with dozens of fulfilment and sortation centres.
