The Andhra Pradesh government has cleared a ₹1 billion investment by Cargo Matters to develop an integrated electric vehicle manufacturing and charging facility in Madanapalle. The project, aligned with the state's EV policy 4.0, targets heavy commercial vehicle electrification through retrofitting, charger production, and R&D infrastructure.
The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has received a Detailed Project Report from logistics firm Cargo Matters for the allotment of 18 acres in Madanapalle, following a memorandum of understanding with the state government. The proposed facility, representing a total investment of ₹1 billion, will comprise a charger manufacturing unit, a retrofit centre for electrifying heavy commercial vehicles, and a research and development division for validation and certification. Half the capital outlay, amounting to ₹50 crore, is designated specifically for charging infrastructure to support regional heavy-duty electric corridors.
Cargo Matters is a technology-driven logistics and sustainable infrastructure company focused on decarbonising the freight sector through electrification of heavy vehicles. The project aligns with the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0 (2024-2029) and is expected to generate approximately 1,000 direct and 3,000 indirect jobs in the region.
APIIC is the nodal agency responsible for industrial infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh. The initiative addresses a critical bottleneck in India's freight electrification journey, the lack of dedicated infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles.
For fleet operators, particularly small and medium players who own over 70% of India's commercial vehicles, access to retrofitting services and reliable charging networks remains a key adoption barrier.
Madanapalle's strategic location, approximately 100 kilometres from Bengaluru and 250 kilometres from Chennai, positions the hub to serve logistics corridors connecting three southern states. The project signals growing policy traction for green freight initiatives and may accelerate similar investments in interstate freight corridors.
