Ashghal advances Semaisma stormwater drainage infrastructure to boost flood resilience

Qatar's Public Works Authority, Ashghal, is constructing a new rainwater pumping station in Semaisma. Integrated with the Semaisma Project Package 4 drainage network, the facility aims to improve stormwater management, road safety, and water resource sustainability across key municipal corridors.

Qatar is accelerating urban drainage infrastructure construction to mitigate wet-weather flood risks and strengthen municipal water management capabilities. According to official disclosures, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the autonomous government agency responsible for planning, design, procurement, and asset management of Qatar's public infrastructure is continuing civil works on a rainwater pumping station in the coastal settlement of Semaisma.

The engineering scheme involves constructing a stormwater pumping facility integrated into the broader drainage network currently under development through Semaisma Project Package 4. Designed to collect stormwater along Semaisma Main Street and Semaisma West Street, the station will discharge collected runoff directly to designated retention sites, enabling the future reuse of water resources for environmental sustainability and irrigation purposes.

The delivery of dedicated drainage infrastructure addresses critical seasonal operational challenges in expanding suburban corridors.
