Baker Hughes has entered into an agreement with ST LNG to provide essential compression and power generation equipment for a proposed 8.4 MTPA offshore LNG export facility in Texas. The first phase of the four-stage project aims for initial production by 2030, marking a critical step toward a final investment decision.

According to official announcements, Baker Hughes has been selected to provide critical gas compression and power generation technology for a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility located offshore Matagorda, Texas.

The agreement specifies the delivery of two LM6000PF centrifugal compressor trains and three NovaLT™16 gas turbine generator packages. This equipment will support the first phase of the ST LNG project, which is designed to produce 2.1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), eventually scaling to a total capacity of 8.4 MTPA across four phases. Baker Hughes is a global energy technology company providing solutions for energy and industrial customers worldwide. ST LNG is a specialized developer focused on the advancement of deepwater port infrastructure for the natural gas sector.

This development is significant as it establishes the technical framework for one of the few proposed offshore liquefaction projects in U.S. federal waters. For the broader industry, the project reflects a strategic shift toward offshore infrastructure, which can streamline certain regulatory and environmental challenges compared to land-based facilities. Securing these high-specification equipment packages is a vital prerequisite for the project to reach a Final Investment Decision. For investors and market participants, the partnership reinforces the sustained demand for advanced turbine technology in the global energy transition.

The project is currently scheduled to deliver its first LNG shipments in the second quarter of 2030. Baker Hughes anticipates recording orders related to this agreement as the development hits specific milestones, further solidifying its backlog in the industrial and energy technology segment.
