SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC —Baladna Food Industries LLC – Syria, a subsidiary of Qatar-based Baladna Q.P.S.C., has partnered with GrowFast for Investment and Entrepreneurship to expand support for startups and innovation in Syria, with an initial focus on agricultural and food technologies. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishes a framework for developing joint entrepreneurship initiatives, identifying promising ventures and connecting eligible businesses with financing and investment opportunities.
A central component of the cooperation is the launch of the Entrepreneurship Acceleration and Empowerment Programme in Agricultural and Food Technologies. The initiative will target entrepreneurs, university students, graduates and researchers seeking to commercialise ideas and research in agriculture and food production. Participants will receive training, mentoring and technical assistance to develop prototypes, assess commercial feasibility and establish viable business models.
The programme will concentrate on areas including smart farming, water management, crop and livestock production, and agricultural supply chains. Baladna will contribute its experience in agricultural operations and food manufacturing, while GrowFast will coordinate programme implementation and provide entrepreneurship development and business acceleration expertise. Detailed implementation arrangements will be established through subsequent agreements between the parties.
The collaboration also includes a startup competition focused on agriculture and agricultural technology. The winners are scheduled to be announced in May 2027, with support extending beyond financial awards to technical guidance and prototype development. The initiative is intended to improve the commercial viability of emerging agricultural solutions and strengthen links between academic research and industry requirements.
The development has implications for Syria's agricultural and food-processing sectors, where technology adoption, production efficiency and stronger supply chains are important to rebuilding productive capacity. Supporting early-stage businesses could help introduce solutions for resource management, agricultural productivity and food supply, while creating opportunities for university research to enter commercial markets. The programme may also expand access to entrepreneurship networks and investment resources for businesses operating in these sectors.
The agreement complements Baladna's broader business activities in Syria, which include plans to develop a dairy farm and processing facility, with commercial market entry targeted for 2028. The company is also working with the International Finance Corporation to assess the country's dairy industry and explore improvements to its value chain involving smaller livestock producers and farmers.
Baladna is additionally examining potential agricultural and industrial developments covering cotton and textiles, sugar beet processing, strategic crops and citrus production. These prospective activities are expected to follow contract farming arrangements linking local farmers with established markets. The company has indicated that its wider project portfolio could generate approximately 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, although the projects remain part of its broader development plans.
Baladna is a Qatar-based food production company with activities in dairy and related agricultural value chains. Its Syrian subsidiary is developing a presence in the country's agricultural and food-processing market. GrowFast operates as an entrepreneurship and investment platform in Syria through its Syria Up initiative, providing business acceleration, training, investment connections and industrial development support. The partnership brings together industrial-sector expertise and startup development capabilities, potentially creating a pipeline of new ventures serving Syria's agricultural economy.
