Singapore-listed Banyan Group has acquired a majority stake in Cape Town-based Newmark Hotels & Reserves. The deal incorporates 26 properties across seven African countries into Banyan's portfolio, positioning the global hospitality firm to capitalise on Africa's accelerating tourism sector.

SINGAPORE Singapore-listed global hospitality firm Banyan Group has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Cape Town-headquartered Newmark Hotels & Reserves under a phased ownership structure that will eventually lead to complete ownership. The transaction integrates Newmark as a collection brand within Banyan Group's umbrella, expanding the parent firm's managed footprint by 26 properties spanning urban hotels, nature lodges, and private game reserves across South Africa, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

Newmark Hotels & Reserves, founded in 2007, operates a specialized management platform focused on high-end urban, nature-based, and safari accommodations across Sub-Saharan Africa. Banyan Group, formerly known as Banyan Tree Holdings Limited, operates nearly 130 hotels and resorts alongside branded residences and spas across 28 countries, utilizing an asset-right management strategy focused on ecologically conscious and luxury travel experiences.

This strategic transaction provides Banyan Group with an immediate, scalable presence in Africa's high-yield eco-tourism and safari market, effectively expanding its regional portfolio beyond its existing operations in North and East Africa. For Newmark, integration into Banyan's commercial architecture unlocks access to broader international distribution channels, cross-brand booking networks, and global loyalty program members, while preserving the entity's local operational identity and management structure.

The acquisition reflects accelerating institutional investment into African hospitality infrastructure as international tourist arrivals to the continent show strong year-on-year growth. By absorbing established regional operating platforms, multi-national hospitality operators can bypass traditional greenfield development delays, secure access to scarce wildlife reserve concessions, and capture surging global demand for sustainable and experiential travel experiences.

For institutional investors and property owners, the deal underlines the growing consolidation among regional hospitality management brands and global platforms. The partnership creates a stronger combined platform to secure future management contracts and development pipelines across emerging African markets, leveraging international capital paired with local operational expertise.
