INDIA —Blue Dart Express Limited has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to assess the feasibility of utilizing the Namo Bharat regional rapid transit corridor for cargo movement. Under the partnership, both entities will analyze potential parcel traffic, station infrastructure, operational logistics, and commercial structures. The assessment centers on integrating Blue Dart's existing middle- and last-mile logistics operations with the regional rail network along the 82-kilometer route connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
Blue Dart Express Limited, part of the DHL Group's DHL eCommerce division, is an integrated express distribution company in South Asia providing air and ground delivery network coverage across more than 56,400 locations in India. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is a joint venture company of the Government of India and participating state governments tasked with implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System across the National Capital Region.
Integrating express parcel traffic into semi-high-speed commuter rail networks offers a model for urban freight movement across congested metropolitan corridors. Transit-oriented freight solutions leverage existing transportation infrastructure to bypass road congestion, reduce vehicular emissions, and lower transit times between key industrial and commercial hubs. Key multimodal transport interchanges, including major terminals at Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar, provide strategic access points connecting regional rail networks with broader interstate bus and traditional railway networks.
For logistics operators and supply chain enterprises, shifting intra-regional cargo transport from road to high-speed electrified rail offers opportunities to improve delivery reliability while advancing corporate decarbonization initiatives. The collaboration reflects an evolving trend in regional planning toward shared-use infrastructure, where passenger rail lines support high-density commercial distribution to optimize resource efficiency across expanding suburban and urban industrial centers.
