BWXT secures $1.4 billion naval nuclear propulsion contracts from US Navy

BWX Technologies has announced the award of U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program contracts totaling more than $1.4 billion, according to an official announcement. The first contract, valued at $1.285 billion, supports long-lead material procurement for the program, with a base contract for fiscal year 2026 as the first of five annual task order awards available through 2030. The second contract, valued at $165 million, is for procurement of long-lead time reactor system components and manufacturing work on the Ford-class aircraft carrier.

BWXT is a nuclear technology company serving naval propulsion and other government markets. The component manufacturing will take place at BWXT facilities in Barberton, Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Indiana. BWXT has delivered more than 420 nuclear reactor cores to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. In the last six months, under a prior contract, BWXT shipped four large Ford-class steam generators from its Mount Vernon facility to the shipyards at Hampton Roads, Virginia, for the newest Ford-class aircraft carrier, the USS Doris Miller (CVN 81).
