The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved two multi-tracking railway projects worth ₹ 248.15 billion, adding approximately 601 km to the network across Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, with completion targeted for 2030-31.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved two multi-tracking railway projects totaling ₹ 248.15 billion, according to a government release. The Ghaziabad-Sitapur 3rd and 4th line (403 km, 859 km track length) is estimated at ₹ 149.billion, while the Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam 3rd and 4th line (198 km, 458 km track length) is estimated at ₹ 98.89 billion. Completion is targeted for 2030-31.
The projects will cover 15 districts and include six new stations on bypass sections to decongest busy nodes. This development matters because increased line capacity directly improves operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. The Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam corridor enhances connectivity to major ports including Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Machilipatnam, and Kakinada, reducing logistics costs for bulk freight. The projects fall under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, emphasizing multimodal integration. Industries impacted include logistics, port operations, cement, steel, and agriculture. Regional stakeholders include export-import traders in Andhra Pradesh and industrial clusters in western Uttar Pradesh.
For investors, the projects signal sustained capital expenditure in rail infrastructure, with expected carbon emission reduction of 180.31 crore kg (equivalent to planting 7.33 crore trees). Employment generation is anticipated during construction and operation phases. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs is a key Indian government body responsible for economic decision-making.
Indian Railways is the state-owned national transport network operating under the Ministry of Railways.
