ZIMBABWE —Gold producer Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc (CMCL) has finalized a 150 million US dollar interim syndicated credit facility through its subsidiary, Caledonia Holdings Zimbabwe (Private) Limited. Arranged by Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Limited and CBZ Bank Limited acting through CBZ Capital, the 36-month debt facility involves a syndicate of eight domestic financial institutions, including Central African Building Society, FBC Bank Limited, FBC Crown Bank Limited, First Capital Bank Limited, NMB Bank Limited, and ZB Bank Limited.
Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc is a Southern Africa-focused gold exploration, development, and mining enterprise listed on the NYSE American and AIM, operating the Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe. Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Limited operates as a commercial banking subsidiary of the South Africa-headquartered Standard Bank Group. CBZ Bank Limited is a leading Zimbabwean financial services group providing commercial banking, investment, and capital markets solutions.
The credit agreement is structured into two main tranches: a 50 million US dollar revolving credit facility priced at SOFR plus 8.10 percent per annum and a 100 million US dollar term facility priced at SOFR plus 7.90 percent per annum, which carries an accordion option for an additional 50 million US dollars. The facility represents the third component of Caledonia's comprehensive capital strategy, supplementing a 150 million US dollar convertible notes issuance completed in January 2026 and a gold price hedging program covering 3,000 ounces per month. Main construction at the Bilboes asset is scheduled across 2027 and 2028, with initial production targeted for October 2028.
This debt syndication highlights the growing role of domestic commercial banks in underwriting major resource extraction projects across Southern Africa. For institutional investors, precious metals producers, and mining engineering suppliers, securing local interim capital mitigates sovereign liquidity risk, maintains project momentum during long-term debt structuring, and accelerates the commercialization of large-scale gold reserves in regional markets.
