Canada Life has signed a multi-year agreement with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to modernize its European IT infrastructure. TCS will apply AI and automation to manage data centres, end-user computing, and software lifecycles, aiming to improve operational resilience and user experience across the insurer’s UK, Irish, Isle of Man, and German operations.

Canada Life, a provider of life insurance, pensions and investment products, has awarded a multi-year managed services contract to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for a comprehensive modernization of its information technology infrastructure across Europe. The deal, covering the insurer’s operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Germany, will see TCS utilize artificial intelligence and digital capabilities to upgrade and run data centres, core infrastructure, end-user computing and software lifecycle management.

The engagement reflects a growing priority among insurers to outsource complex IT functions to specialist partners in order to bolster operational resilience, increase automation and contain costs. For Canada Life, which is part of Great-West Lifeco, the partnership is intended to yield more agile and performance-driven technology services that can adapt to shifting business demands. By taking on this long-term mandate, TCS deepens its footprint in the European banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector. The company said it would expand its infrastructure services talent pool across the four jurisdictions, investing in new learning and certification programmes. The move aligns with TCS’s broader strategy to position the UK and Ireland as hubs for delivering high-value IT services.

The agreement also signals competitive intensity in the European insurance IT services market, as carriers pursue digital transformation while managing legacy systems. TCS, a Mumbai-headquartered Tata Group company, has built a substantial BFSI practice in Europe, while Canada Life’s decision to entrust end-to-end infrastructure management to an external partner indicates a willingness to embrace AI-led operational models to improve the customer and employee experience.

The companies disclosed the agreement in a joint statement, underlining the intent to build a long-term technology foundation. No financial terms were released.
