Chhattisgarh has secured INR 138.4 billion in investment proposals focused on green steel manufacturing during an industrial summit. The initiatives aim to expand high-value downstream metallurgy while creating nearly 10,921 employment opportunities across the state.

The Government of Chhattisgarh has received investment commitments totaling INR 138.4 billion aimed at establishing sustainable steel production capacity within the state. Disclosed during the Industry Dialogue on Green Steel organized alongside industry stakeholders, these proposed capital deployments are projected to create 10,921 direct and indirect positions. The announcement aligns with a broader industrial expansion strategy under the state's 2024-30 development framework, which has attracted approximately INR 8 trillion in total proposals across technology, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and heavy industries over an 18-month timeframe.

Located in central India, Chhattisgarh is a mineral-rich state holding significant reserves of iron ore, coal, and limestone, long serving as a principal primary metal production center. The regional administration is executing a structural policy shift to convert raw metal output into higher-margin downstream engineered products, including specialized automotive components, railway infrastructure, defense supplies, and solar equipment. Utilizing a power surplus exceeding 26,000 MW alongside competitive industrial energy tariffs, the province aims to capture growing global demand for low-carbon metallurgical manufacturing.

This transition directly impacts heavy industry operators, renewable energy suppliers, automotive engineering firms, and regional supply chain networks. By expanding beyond primary metal extraction, local industrial authorities are establishing four new industrial corridors outside the primary capital zone in Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Janjgir-Champa and Bastar. Concurrently, a central government-approved 306-acre Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Rajnandgaon is positioned to draw over INR 230 billion in secondary capital, further diversifying the regional workforce and industrial footprint.

To support corporate capital deployment, the state has enacted regulatory updates, including the Ease of Doing Business Act, which introduces risk-tiered regulatory reviews, self-certification mechanisms, and statutory time-bound approvals. For global investors and industrial decision-makers, Chhattisgarh's combined approach of decarbonizing steel production, offering dedicated industrial land, and streamlining administrative processes provides a strategic model for navigating carbon reduction targets while preserving heavy industry profitability in South Asia.
