Emirates has commenced construction on a 19 billion dirham aviation engineering complex at Dubai South. Contracted to China Railway Construction Corporation, the massive facilities at Al Maktoum International Airport will support simultaneous servicing for 28 wide-body aircraft upon completion in 2030.
Emirates Airline has officially broken ground on a massive engineering facility at Al Maktoum International Airport within Dubai South, following the formal issuance of a contract valued at 19 billion dirhams. Beijing-headquartered China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), a state-owned construction enterprise specializing in large-scale international transport and industrial infrastructure, will lead the development, with French engineering firm Artelia serving as the primary project consultant. Spanning more than 1 million square meters, the mega-complex represents a critical structural upgrade for the region's aviation sector.
The infrastructure will feature 77,000 square meters of specialized maintenance workshops, 380,000 square meters of logistics and warehousing zones, a dedicated administrative headquarters, and extensive training facilities. Designed to simultaneously service 28 wide-body commercial aircraft, the facility will become the largest dedicated operational maintenance hub of its kind globally when it opens in 2030.
This project significantly accelerates the long-term migration of commercial aviation traffic toward Al Maktoum International Airport, solidifying Dubai's position as a dominant global logistics crossroads connecting East and West. By scaling up its domestic maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities, the state-carrier minimizes operational dependencies on external aerospace hubs, reinforcing supply chain resilience.
For global aerospace manufacturers, maintenance providers, and logistics firms, this development signals a major shift in Middle Eastern industrial demand. The scale of the contract highlights China's expanding footprint in Gulf infrastructure development and underscores the strategic emphasis regional planners are placing on multi-modal transport connectivity and long-term fleet readiness.
