INDIA —Indian state-backed shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard Limited has entered into a strategic collaboration with Singapore's Synergy Marine Group to jointly develop commercial shipbuilding, vessel modification, and repair projects tailored for global shipowners.
Under the agreement, Synergy Marine Group will offer technical guidance, engineering support, site supervision, and asset lifecycle management, complementing Cochin Shipyard's heavy industrial manufacturing infrastructure. The alliance focuses on expanding capabilities across complex maritime segments, including commercial ship construction, oil and gas module fabrication, and specialized carrier-to-FSRU regasification conversions.
This initiative aligns with national maritime policy goals to elevate India's standing in high-value international ship construction and lifecycle servicing. Integrating global vessel engineering practices with domestic yard capacity addresses the growing global demand for dual-fuel vessels, specialized gas transport infrastructure, and technical fleet modernization.
For international investors and fleet operators, the partnership provides an alternative execution ecosystem for commercial vessel construction and major conversions. Enhancing domestic shipyard throughput with global project management standards lowers total cost of ownership while supporting long-term asset performance in critical trade corridors.
Cochin Shipyard is a public sector shipbuilding enterprise under India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, operating major commercial and defense yard facilities. Synergy Marine Group is a Singapore-headquartered global ship management firm overseeing a diverse fleet of over 750 commercial vessels worldwide.
