INDIA —Colt Data Centre Services and RMZ have officially commenced construction on a new 64-megawatt data centre facility in Navi Mumbai. This development marks the third such facility developed by the partners in the region and follows the recent signing of the site’s first hyperscale client. The project serves as a core component of a broader USD 1.7 billion joint venture established to systematically expand digital infrastructure capacity across the Indian market.
This strategic expansion directly addresses the escalating regional demand for high-density computing resources, which is primarily driven by the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence workloads. The new facility is explicitly engineered with advanced thermal management systems, including specialized liquid cooling technologies, to support significantly higher rack densities with optimal efficiency. Furthermore, the infrastructure will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources and utilizes a closed-loop cooling design to minimize wastewater generation, ensuring alignment with contemporary environmental and operational sustainability standards.
The project carries substantial implications for the regional technology, energy, and construction sectors. During its active development and subsequent operational phases, the facility is projected to generate over 700 direct and indirect employment opportunities. It will also stimulate consistent demand for local suppliers, specialized contractors, and technical service providers, thereby reinforcing the domestic supply chain for large-scale technology infrastructure projects and fostering regional economic development.
From a strategic market perspective, this rapid deployment underscores the aggressive scaling of the joint venture within an 18-month timeframe since its initial announcement. Colt Data Centre Services operates as a global provider of hyperscale and large enterprise data centre infrastructure. RMZ is a prominent privately owned real assets platform in India, widely recognized for developing extensive commercial and technology parks. Their combined technical and developmental capabilities position the partnership to capture a substantial share of the growing hyperscale and AI-driven infrastructure market in South Asia, offering enterprise clients a scalable, sustainable alternative for high-performance computing deployment.
