DCM Shriram expands renewable energy capacity for Bharuch facility with INR 2.17 billion investment

Federal Reserve Building

The board of DCM Shriram Ltd has authorized an INR 2.17 billion investment strategy to nearly double the renewable energy capacity at its Bharuch industrial complex. This initiative involves acquiring a strategic 26% stake in renewable special purpose vehicles to secure 48 MW of additional power by mid-2027.

DCM Shriram Ltd is set to significantly scale its green energy procurement following board approval for a multi-tranche equity investment of up to INR 870 million. According to official company disclosures, this capital will secure a minimum 26% ownership in special purpose vehicles (SPVs) dedicated to a new renewable energy project.

An additional INR 1.3 billion has been earmarked for essential infrastructure development to support this expansion. DCM Shriram Ltd is a diversified Indian conglomerate with a strong presence in the agriculture, chlor-vinyl, and value-added business sectors.

This latest move targets the company's Bharuch plant, where renewable power capacity is expected to rise from 50.4 MW to 98.4 MW. Notably, the project aims to deliver 30 MW of round-the-clock electricity at a 75% capacity utilization factor, addressing the intermittency challenges typically associated with green energy.

Scheduled for completion by June 2027, this development reflects a broader industrial trend toward captive renewable power to mitigate fluctuating grid costs and meet sustainability mandates.

For stakeholders, this shift highlights the viability of the SPV model in large-scale industrial decarbonization. By securing long-term, stable energy pricing and reducing carbon footprints, enterprises like DCM Shriram are positioning themselves to withstand rising environmental regulatory pressures while improving operational cost efficiencies in energy-intensive manufacturing zones.
