Delhi authorities are advancing a 55 km elevated road project along the Ring Road corridor, with construction expected to begin within six months. The phased plan aims to reduce congestion, improve mobility, and modernize one of the capital’s busiest transport arteries.

Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) is progressing plans to build a 55 km elevated corridor along the Mahatma Gandhi Ring Road, structured in six execution phases. According to officials familiar with the project, the initial phase will likely cover an 11.5 km stretch between Kashmere Gate ISBT and the Ashram–DND Flyway section, selected due to fewer logistical constraints and existing land availability.

A detailed project report is currently being prepared, with construction anticipated to commence after regulatory and financial approvals are secured. The initiative is designed to address chronic congestion across one of Delhi’s most critical arterial routes by introducing grade-separated elevated corridors above the existing road network.

The project also includes redesigning intersections, integrating public transport connectivity, and incorporating pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. The development is expected to have significant implications for urban infrastructure, construction, and transport planning sectors, particularly benefiting engineering, procurement, and construction firms as well as mobility solution providers. Environmental assessments, traffic modelling, and geotechnical studies are being undertaken to support project execution.

Strategically, the project signals increased public investment in urban mobility upgrades in India’s capital, creating long-term opportunities for private contractors, consultants, and investors focused on large-scale infrastructure. It also reflects a broader policy push toward reducing travel time, improving logistics efficiency, and enhancing urban livability in high-density cities. The PWD, responsible for infrastructure development and maintenance in Delhi, is overseeing implementation with technical support from consulting firm AECOM.
