Belgium-based marine engineering firm DEME has secured a capital dredging contract from Navayuga Engineering Company Limited to deepen the harbor basin at the greenfield Ramayapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh, India, enhancing its capacity to handle large commercial vessels.

INDIA Belgium-based marine engineering firm DEME has secured a capital dredging and land reclamation contract from Navayuga Engineering Company Limited to support the development of the Ramayapatnam deep-sea greenfield port in Andhra Pradesh, India. Under the agreement, DEME will deepen the entire harbor basin, turning circle, and four berth pockets. The project utilizes a cutter suction dredger to transport excavated material onshore for the construction of the port platform and supporting infrastructure. Navayuga Engineering Company Limited is an Indian infrastructure development firm specializing in large-scale marine, structural, and transport projects.

This development is critical as it establishes a high-capacity maritime gateway along India's eastern coast, specifically designed to optimize regional trade and accelerate industrial development. By deepening the facility to accommodate a draft depth of approximately 15.5 meters, the port will gain the capacity to host large Panamax-class cargo vessels, which significantly drives down logistical costs and improves supply chain efficiencies across the hinterland.

The expansion aligns with broader regional policy objectives to bolster India's maritime infrastructure and enhance its global shipping competitiveness. For the maritime, logistics, and manufacturing industries, this infrastructure upgrade unlocks direct deep-sea access, alleviating congestion at older domestic ports and providing scalable shipping solutions for regional industrial clusters.

For businesses and institutional investors, the progress at Ramayapatnam Port highlights emerging commercial opportunities within the South Asian logistics corridor. The enhanced vessel capacity offers multinational corporations more reliable export-import routes, lowering operational overheads and signaling robust long-term growth prospects in the surrounding industrial zones.
