India’s DGCA has issued a public-use aerodrome licence for Noida International Airport in Jewar, enabling commercial flight operations. The greenfield project, developed in phases, is expected to strengthen air connectivity in the National Capital Region while supporting cargo logistics, passenger growth, and regional economic development.
India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has approved an aerodrome licence for Noida International Airport located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, authorizing the facility to operate under the public-use category with all-weather capability, according to official disclosures. The airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a project company responsible for building and operating the greenfield aviation hub in Gautam Budh Nagar district. The company is overseeing phased construction designed to gradually expand the airport’s passenger and cargo handling capacity. Initial infrastructure includes a single runway and terminal designed to process about 12 million passengers annually. Long-term development plans outline four construction phases, with full completion expected to raise annual passenger capacity to approximately 70 million while integrating a large multimodal cargo logistics hub.
The licensing marks a regulatory milestone that moves the project closer to commercial operations and supports broader efforts to expand aviation infrastructure in northern India. Additional airport capacity is considered important for easing pressure on existing facilities serving the National Capital Region, particularly as passenger traffic continues to grow. Beyond passenger travel, the development is positioned to strengthen regional logistics networks and support trade flows through dedicated cargo infrastructure. Businesses in aviation services, logistics, tourism, and real estate across western Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi metropolitan area could benefit from improved connectivity. The project also aligns with India’s long-term aviation expansion strategy, which includes the development of new greenfield airports and upgrades to existing facilities as part of a national plan to significantly increase the number of operational airports by 2047.
