NETHERLANDS; UNITED KINGDOM —Eindhoven-headquartered VitalFluid has secured €17.2 million in fresh growth capital to accelerate the global commercial deployment of its sustainable plasma-activated water solution. The equity round was co-led by Dutch impact investor Invest-NL, which contributed €4 million, alongside participation from Alder Tree Investments and existing backers including Horticoop, BOM, Future Food Fund, Graduate Ventures, Innovation Industries, VDL, and Goeie Grutten. The transaction also integrates a €2.7 million Innovation Credit granted by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
VitalFluid is a Dutch agricultural technology company that develops plasma-activated water systems designed to replace synthetic chemical crop protection agents. By utilizing only ambient air, water, and electricity, the firm's proprietary technology creates a specialized liquid on-site that eliminates fungal pathogens without leaving toxic chemical residues on produce or contaminating soil and groundwater supplies.
The investment addresses mounting pressure on the global agricultural sector from tightening chemical usage regulations, declining chemical efficacy due to pathogen resistance, and heightened consumer demand for clean food production. By offering an eco-friendly input that integrates directly into existing farm spraying hardware, the technology enables commercial growers to maintain crop yields while reducing reliance on conventional chemical pesticides.
Operationally, the fresh capital will facilitate the enterprise's expansion strategy into the United States market and scale up existing commercial operations in the United Kingdom, where its system is already deployed across more than 100 hectares of commercial strawberry crops. Additionally, the company plans to broaden product applications to permanent crops such as apples and grapes while navigating regulatory pathways to unlock broader commercial access within the European Union.
Invest-NL is the national financing and development institution of the Netherlands, operating as a private enterprise wholly owned by the Dutch Ministry of Finance. It deploys capital into high-risk, innovative scale-ups and infrastructure projects aimed at driving key societal and environmental transitions across the Dutch economy.
