POLAND —A major multi-country private equity initiative has secured significant backing to expand financial access for smaller commercial enterprises across Central and Eastern Europe. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has injected EUR 40 million into Avallon MBO Fund IV, a targeted vehicle managed by Avallon designed to acquire equity and quasi-equity stakes in expanding enterprises.
The capital injection addresses persistent constraints in private equity fundraising across emerging European markets, where securing long-term risk capital remains difficult for established managers. By anchoring this fund, institutional backing helps mobilize supplementary capital to bridge the funding gap for growing enterprises that require substantial operational scaling.
Small and medium-sized enterprises alongside small mid-caps across Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia face heightened capital barriers in current macroeconomic conditions. Direct equity participation empowers management teams to execute structural buyouts, foster innovation, and scale operations sustainably.
Strategic investors and regional businesses stand to benefit from a more resilient funding ecosystem capable of supporting corporate expansion and professionalization. Fund managers targeting a final capitalization between EUR 220 million and EUR 260 million are positioned to deploy targeted equity into diversified portfolios, enhancing market competitiveness throughout the region.
