SERBIA —Serbian small and medium-sized businesses face expanded financing opportunities following a €40 million credit package extended to local lender AikLeasing by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The transaction, fully backed by parent organization AikBank, splits funding into a €30 million credit line for general commercial expansion and a €10 million green-focused tranche. Borrowers accessing the capital under the environmental initiative stand to receive direct performance-based European Union grants ranging from 10 to 15 percent upon successful execution of eligible projects, alongside funded advisory assistance.
Established in 2024 as a wholly owned subsidiary of AikBank, AikLeasing maintains a portfolio valued at €130 million, delivering asset financing solutions across commercial transport, passenger vehicles, construction hardware, and farming machinery. The lending institution serves more than 900 corporate clients throughout the country. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development functions as a multilateral financial entity committed to fostering market-oriented economies, having directed over €11 billion across 410 initiatives in Serbia to reinforce financial sector liquidity, private enterprise competitiveness, and sustainable infrastructure.
This financial intervention addresses a critical funding gap for regional enterprises navigating elevated capital acquisition costs and stringent credit standards. By channeling capital through non-bank financial intermediaries, the development finance institution accelerates operational upgrades for smaller companies, emphasizing commercial ventures outside the capital region, female-headed enterprises, and agricultural supply networks. Mandating environmental performance targets across both loan tranches ensures that local businesses integrate resource-efficient hardware and meet international operational criteria.
For domestic commercial entities, the facility provides long-term capital bundled with technical oversight and cash back incentives, lowering financial barriers to decarbonization. The initiative strengthens the institutional capacity of leasing channels to handle green assets, laying a structural foundation for broader ESG-aligned capital allocation across Western Balkan commercial markets.
