COTE DIVOIRE (IVORY COAST); SENEGAL —The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has finalized a €99.1 million financial package, directed toward Mota-Engil Africa. The capital is earmarked for upgrading operational capacity, refinancing recent investments, and managing working capital requirements across three distinct mining sites located in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. The funding targets the acquisition of contemporary heavy machinery designed to replace legacy equipment, optimize productivity, and streamline site operations.
Mota-Engil Africa operates as a prominent engineering, construction, and mining services provider across the African continent, managing large-scale infrastructure and mineral extraction projects. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) functions as an international financial institution that promotes private sector development and market economies across multiple regions, expanding its investment mandate into sub-Saharan markets.
The capital injection carries significant environmental objectives by replacing older, fuel-intensive machinery with modern, energy-efficient alternatives. This transition is projected to lower overall fuel consumption and curb greenhouse gas emissions across the targeted extraction sites. Concurrently, the initiative incorporates a technical cooperation program backed by a €200,000 grant under the institutional Gender and Economic Inclusion Framework, aiming to enhance female workforce participation and establish formal, accredited technical training initiatives through local educational institutions.
The modernization initiative establishes a benchmark for resource extraction financing within West Africa, directly influencing the regional engineering, construction, and mining services sectors. By integrating mandatory environmental upgrades and workforce upskilling mandates, the financing framework establishes stringent operational expectations for industrial service providers operating across emerging markets.
