BELGIUM; JAPAN —The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) have signed a memorandum of understanding in Bangkok, renewing their cooperative framework for an additional five years. Originally established in 2018, the bilateral agreement facilitates joint financial interventions across member states, neighboring regions, and developing markets.
This renewed memorandum of understanding establishes an institutional framework aimed at addressing supply chain vulnerabilities and accelerating investments in clean energy transitions. By synchronizing advisory networks and capital deployment, both institutions intend to mitigate financial risks for high-capital ventures across global corridors.
Multilateral infrastructure developers, renewable energy enterprises, and financial institutions benefit from structured co-financing channels. The framework also incorporates provisions supporting long-term economic recovery and infrastructure restoration initiatives within Ukraine.
For market participants and institutional investors, the pact provides a predictable mechanism for risk-sharing in critical sectors such as critical minerals and digital connectivity. The formalized cooperation minimizes exposure to geopolitical volatility and supports long-term strategic asset development.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) operates as the long-term lending institution of the European Union, channeling capital into regional development, climate action, and innovation initiatives. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is a policy-based financial institution wholly owned by the Japanese government, mandated to promote international competitiveness and global economic security.
