UNITED KINGDOM —Danish renewable energy developer Ørsted has finalized an agreement to acquire the remaining 49.9 percent equity interest in the Gunfleet Sands 1 & 2 Offshore Wind Farm from its existing investment partners. Valued at approximately GBP 15 million, the transaction consolidates full ownership under Ørsted, which previously held a 50.1 percent controlling stake in the asset.
Consolidating total operational control over the 172-megawatt facility enables the energy firm to optimize lifecycle management and streamline strategic planning for the site. Located seven kilometers off the Essex coastline, the facility has maintained continuous operations since 2010, delivering renewable electricity to over 125,000 British households annually.
The consolidation of this operating asset provides corporate decision-makers with greater flexibility regarding late-stage asset management, including prospective lifetime extension evaluations. By exercising long-standing buyback provisions embedded within original partnership frameworks, the corporation strengthens its operational footprint within the UK market, where its broader fleet supplies approximately 7 percent of the nation's total electricity demand.
Headquartered in Denmark, Ørsted A/S is a global renewable energy enterprise specializing in the development, construction, and operation of offshore wind farms, backed by an extensive international portfolio spanning Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America. Subject to customary regulatory closing conditions, the transaction is projected to conclude in November.
