Enersense has signed a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) agreement with an unnamed renewable energy project developer for a battery energy storage system (BESS) and substation expansion in Finland. The proposed engineering, procurement and construction package is valued at approximately EUR 10 million, subject to the customer's final investment decision expected in December 2026.

FINLAND —Enersense has secured an initial implementation agreement for a battery energy storage project in Finland, covering the development of a new battery energy storage system (BESS) and the expansion of an existing electricity substation. The agreement, structured as a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP), allows the company to commence preparatory activities before the customer makes its final investment decision, which is expected in December 2026.

The planned delivery has an estimated value of approximately EUR 10 million if the project proceeds in full. Enersense's proposed responsibilities encompass engineering, procurement and construction of both the storage installation and the associated substation infrastructure. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2027, with completion targeted for later in the same year. The customer, identified only as a developer of renewable energy projects, has yet to confirm the full investment.

The development reflects the growing requirement for grid-scale storage as variable renewable electricity generation expands. Battery systems can absorb surplus electricity during periods of high generation and release it when production declines or demand increases. Integrating storage with substation infrastructure also provides a route for connecting these assets to the electricity network, supporting grid flexibility and more efficient use of renewable generation.

The project has implications for Finland's energy infrastructure market, particularly contractors involved in battery installations, electrical engineering, grid connections and substation upgrades. It also illustrates how renewable energy developers are incorporating storage and network infrastructure into project planning as power systems accommodate a greater share of intermittent generation.

For Enersense, the agreement provides an opportunity to extend its engineering, procurement and construction activities in the energy storage segment. However, the EUR 10 million value remains conditional rather than a fully confirmed project commitment, and the near-term work is limited to preparation under the LNTP. The December investment decision will therefore be a key milestone in determining whether the complete delivery moves into the construction phase.

Enersense International is a Finnish infrastructure services company operating across energy transmission and generation, industrial energy transition, telecommunications and data centre infrastructure. Its activities include the design, construction, maintenance and modernisation of critical infrastructure in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
