INDIA —Multinational utility provider ENGIE has fully commissioned 450 megawatts of new solar photovoltaic capacity in India. The operational expansion encompasses a 200-megawatt solar facility developed through Enren II Energy Private Limited at the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat's Kutch district, alongside a 250-megawatt solar generation plant located at Khaba in the Barmer district of Rajasthan.
ENGIE is a France-headquartered global energy enterprise operating in low-carbon energy generation, natural gas infrastructure, and renewable power solutions worldwide. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited serves as the apex state-owned power holding utility in Gujarat, managing bulk electricity procurement, transmission oversight, and distribution coordination across regional discoms.
The 200-megawatt Khavda facility is projected to yield approximately 350 million units of clean electricity per year, tied to a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. Combined with the Barmer installation, the project commissioning raises ENGIE's active and under-construction renewable energy portfolio in India to approximately 2 gigawatts, supporting ongoing expansion into battery energy storage systems and hybrid power configurations.
This capacity deployment underscores the accelerating momentum of utility-scale solar integration across India's high-irradiance Western corridor. For state utilities, renewable energy developers, and industrial off-takers, securing multi-decadal power purchase agreements stabilizes bulk grid pricing, accelerates national decarbonization targets, and reinforces market confidence in hybrid and battery-integrated storage platforms.
