CANADA —Aker Solutions' advisory division Entr, operating in partnership with Canadian research and technical firm C-CORE, has been awarded a consultancy contract to conduct a technical study on offshore wind transmission routing options and technological configurations off the coast of Nova Scotia. The joint analytical effort will be led by personnel based in St. John's, Canada, alongside supporting specialists in Oslo, Norway. Project completion is scheduled for January 2027, after which the analytical findings will be released to the public.
Entr is a specialized offshore advisory business unit within Norway-headquartered energy engineering firm Aker Solutions. C-CORE is a Canadian research and advisory institute based in Newfoundland that delivers engineering, environmental risk assessment, and remote sensing services for complex marine environments.
The joint assessment focuses on identifying optimal high-voltage subsea transmission corridors, grid interconnection strategies, and offshore substation configurations required to harvest Atlantic Canada's offshore wind resource. Beyond evaluating domestic grid integration in Nova Scotia, the study will analyze technical feasibility for long-distance subsea power transmission to export excess clean energy to neighbouring Canadian provinces and regional markets in the northeastern United States.
The study marks a strategic milestone for Atlantic Canada's emerging offshore renewable energy domain as regional authorities prepare regulatory frameworks for commercial wind leasing. For power utilities, transmission operators, and clean energy developers, establishing standardized transmission routing concepts mitigates preliminary capital risk and streamlines future grid interconnection. The assessment also highlights growing cross-border clean energy export potential, providing critical technical groundwork for institutional investors and energy policymakers evaluating multi-jurisdictional infrastructure projects across Eastern Canada and New England.
