The European Union has committed €411 million across 73 new Horizon Europe projects to upgrade research infrastructure, foster advanced artificial intelligence platforms, and expand cross-border scientific data capabilities.

BELGIUM A total of 73 research initiatives have been selected to receive €411 million in funding under the Horizon Europe framework, aimed at enhancing technological tools and digital infrastructure for European researchers. Coordinated through the European Research Executive Agency, the newly selected projects span 18 primary focus areas, prioritizing advanced scientific instrumentation, high-performance computing, open data integration, and professional skill development across member states.

The European Research Executive Agency is an executive body established by the European Commission to manage EU funding programmes for research and innovation. It evaluates proposals, oversees project implementation, and supports the execution of Horizon Europe policy goals. The agency operates out of Brussels, Belgium.

The capital injection addresses several core strategic domains, directing €154 million toward health, environmental, and digital research services, alongside €109 million focused on optimizing the overall research landscape. A further €85 million is earmarked for artificial intelligence tools and open data sharing via the European Open Science Cloud, while €63 million will fund next-generation digital twins and scientific instrumentation.

This initiative significantly strengthens Europe's technological independence by funding digital twins for climate modeling and specialized computing systems for industrial applications. By facilitating cross-disciplinary data stewardship and upgrading laboratory access, the program lowers barriers for scientific collaboration across the single market, directly benefiting academic institutions, healthcare researchers, and clean technology developers.

For enterprise and industrial decision-makers, the funding signals expanding public-private partnership opportunities in advanced software development, climate simulation tools, and particle physics technologies. Participating commercial entities and research consortia stand to gain early access to high-value infrastructure, accelerating time-to-market for specialized technologies within the clean energy and digital transition ecosystems.
