European aerospace leaders sign cooperation pact for Polish military satellite system

Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space, and RADMOR have entered a strategic industrial agreement to develop a geostationary defense telecommunications satellite for Poland. The project focuses on high-resilience, cyber-secured communications to bolster Poland’s national space sovereignty under the EU’s ‘Readiness 2030’ framework.

Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space-a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo-and Polish electronics firm RADMOR have finalized a partnership to construct a dedicated military telecommunications satellite for the Polish Ministry of Defence. The initiative, revealed during a diplomatic gathering between Polish and French defense officials, aligns with the European Commission’s ‘Readiness 2030’ plan.

This project will establish an end-to-end geostationary system designed to provide robust, cyber-secured communication channels for the Polish armed forces, covering both space-based and ground-level infrastructure. This development is significant as it reflects the intensifying focus on space sovereignty within NATO’s eastern flank.

By developing a bespoke defense satellite, Poland is reducing its reliance on commercial or shared allied assets in an increasingly contested space environment.
