The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti have established a EUR 500 million financing framework to support Italian small and medium enterprises. This capital injection targets research, innovation, and energy transition projects, enhancing market competitiveness through favorable long-term credit mechanisms and expanded direct lending capabilities.

ITALY —The European Investment Bank (EIB) and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti have finalized a strategic financing agreement valued at up to EUR 500 million. An initial tranche of EUR 150 million has already been executed. This capital is designated to facilitate credit access for Italian small and medium enterprises and mid cap corporations. The framework specifically targets organizations with fewer than 250 employees, mid sized entities employing up to 3000 individuals, and smaller firms generating annual revenues between EUR 25 million and EUR 50 million.

This development addresses a critical capital gap for businesses pursuing complex operational transformations. By leveraging the top tier credit rating of the European Investment Bank (EIB), the funding mechanism allows Cassa Depositi e Prestiti to source capital at highly competitive international rates. These savings are subsequently passed to end borrowers, reducing the financial friction associated with long term strategic investments in research, technological innovation, and environmental sustainability initiatives.

The initiative directly influences the Italian corporate landscape by diversifying available financial instruments. Beyond traditional medium and long term loans, the framework enables the subscription of corporate debt securities and asset backed instruments tied to mini bonds. This structural flexibility supports a broader spectrum of business models, particularly those in manufacturing, technology, and green energy sectors that require sustained capital deployment to meet evolving regulatory and market demands.

For investors and corporate stakeholders, this agreement signals a reinforced institutional commitment to regional economic resilience. Cassa Depositi e Prestiti will experience an expanded capacity for direct lending, increasing both the volume of deployed capital and the breadth of its corporate client base. Consequently, beneficiary enterprises are positioned to scale operations domestically and internationally, fostering enhanced competitiveness in global supply chains while aligning with broader European Union sustainability objectives.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the lending arm of the European Union, dedicated to fostering sustainable economic growth through long term financing. Cassa Depositi e Prestiti is the Italian national promotional institution, mandated to support the country’s economic development by providing strategic funding to public administrations and private enterprises.
