Tokyo-based Evident has completed the acquisition of Italian microscopy developer CrestOptics, incorporating advanced spinning disk and super-resolution imaging technologies into its life science portfolio to meet rising demand for high-speed 3D cellular imaging.

ITALY —Optical technology manufacturer Evident has finalized its buyout of Rome-headquartered CrestOptics, formalizing a long-standing commercial partnership between the two developers. Under the terms of the deal, CrestOptics will operate as a subsidiary from its existing Italian research and manufacturing site while continuing to supply optical modules across the broader microscopy sector.

Evident, formerly the scientific solutions division of Olympus Corporation, produces optical precision instruments for life science research, clinical pathology, and industrial quality control across facilities in Asia, Europe, and North America. CrestOptics specializes in the design and production of confocal spinning disk systems and structured illumination microscopy modules utilized in high-content cellular analysis.

The integration directly strengthens Evident's high-content screening and live-cell imaging offerings. By embedding proprietary spinning disk and super-resolution hardware into its broader platform ecosystem, the combined entity aims to deliver elevated optical sectioning speeds and improved resolution required for studying intricate biological models.

This transaction impacts the global biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and academic research markets, particularly within regions prioritizing drug discovery and advanced cellular biology across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. Instrumentation vendors and research institutions relying on third-party optical modules will see continued supply continuity given the subsidiary's planned open-market distribution model.

For life science instrumentation manufacturers and investors, the acquisition highlights ongoing consolidation within high-end optical microscopy. Integrating niche super-resolution developers into multi-national distribution networks accelerates product commercialization while addressing research demand for low-phototoxicity, high-throughput live-cell visualization systems.
