Fluor Corporation has received full notice to proceed for the engineering, procurement, and construction management contract covering the fourth grinding line expansion at the Sierra Gorda mine in Chile, targeting a throughput increase to 165,000 tonnes daily.

CHILE —Fluor Corporation has formally received full authorization to advance operations under its engineering, procurement, and construction management agreement with Sierra Gorda Sociedad Contractual Minera. The agreement focuses on executing the fourth grinding line expansion at the open-pit copper-molybdenum extraction facility situated in the Antofagasta Region of Chile, with financial recognition scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

The brownfield upgrade encompasses the installation of a dedicated fourth process train incorporating a primary crusher, high-pressure grinding roll technology, fine ore milling circuits, and flotation infrastructure alongside necessary support systems. Engineering plans target raising the facility ore-handling capacity from roughly 130,000 tonnes up to 165,000 tonnes per day, with physical construction activities scheduled to initiate in 2027.

This capital project carries substantial significance for the regional extraction sector by addressing structural supply demands in major copper and molybdenum producing markets. Expanding processing throughput optimizes asset efficiency for large-scale operations in South America, reinforcing long-term metal output stability and supporting global supply chains reliant on critical industrial minerals.

For industrial engineering firms, equipment manufacturers, and natural resource enterprises, the initiative highlights sustained capital expenditure trends toward brownfield enhancements over greenfield developments. Investors monitor such engineering contracts as indicators of project execution velocity and margin health within international mining services, reflecting broader corporate strategies aimed at maximizing output efficiency in established resource corridors.

Fluor Corporation operates as a multinational professional and technical services enterprise delivering engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance solutions to diverse global sectors. Headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company employs thousands of personnel worldwide to manage complex capital infrastructure and industrial projects.
