INDIA —Indian pharmaceutical manufacturer Fredun Pharmaceuticals has completed the acquisition of pet-wellness brand Furlicks from healthcare firm USV and its subsidiary Wellbeing Nutrition. The strategic transaction marks the company's formal entry into the rapidly expanding domestic pet-care sector, enabling it to diversify its healthcare portfolio beyond traditional human pharmaceuticals into preventive animal health.
Founded as a healthcare and pharmaceutical entity, Fredun Pharmaceuticals operates integrated research, formulation development, and manufacturing operations across domestic and international markets. The acquisition allows the firm to leverage its existing supply chain network, manufacturing footprint, and regulatory capabilities to scale Furlicks, which currently specializes in oral-strip supplement formats targeting skin, joint, gut, and oral health for pets.
This corporate expansion reflects growing consumer expenditure on specialized pet nutrition and preventive veterinary care across India. To capitalize on these market dynamics, Fredun Pharmaceuticals plans to broaden Furlicks from its niche oral-strip product line into an everyday pet-wellness platform. The growth strategy includes launching 12 new stock keeping units during the initial phase, followed by an additional 32 units in a subsequent deployment.
The transaction underscores an increasing trend of established pharmaceutical companies entering high-margin consumer wellness and animal healthcare niches. By integrating manufacturing and distribution efficiencies, pharmaceutical firms can accelerate product rollouts and address rising demand for specialized preventive care formulations across key regional consumer markets.
