MALAYSIA —G3nerasi Kinta Sdn Bhd, an indirect subsidiary of SD Guthrie Berhad held through SD Guthrie Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd in consortium with Gamuda Energy Sdn Bhd and Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, has entered into a landmark 21-year Bilateral Energy Supply Contract term sheet with a US-based multinational technology company. Under the agreement, G3nerasi Kinta will develop a hybrid utility-scale solar photovoltaic plant with a minimum net capacity of 680 MWac, paired with a four-hour battery energy storage system in Perak, Malaysia. The facility will supply clean power directly to the buyer's regional data centers under Malaysia's Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme, with commercial operations targeted for 2029 and total gross revenues expected to exceed RM10 billion over the contract term.
SD Guthrie Berhad is a global producer of certified sustainable palm oil that has expanded into industrial real estate and utility-scale renewable infrastructure across Malaysia. The project's off-taker is a prominent US-based technology multinational operating large-scale data center infrastructure across Southeast Asia.
The deal represents a major milestone in operationalizing Malaysia's Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme framework, which enables corporate buyers to secure third-party renewable energy supply directly through bilateral contracts. By pairing high-capacity solar generation with a four-hour utility-scale battery energy storage system, the project establishes a scalable benchmark for delivering dispatchable, continuous clean power to energy-intensive digital infrastructure. This framework accelerates national decarbonization targets while strengthening grid resilience in key industrial corridors.
For regional utilities and infrastructure investors, the transaction illustrates the growing convergence between digital infrastructure expansion and corporate green power purchasing. The multi-billion-ringgit commitment provides long-term earnings visibility for the consortium partners while highlighting non-recourse project financing and equity joint ventures as effective models for large-scale energy transition projects in Southeast Asia.
