AUSTRALIA —Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd, an indirect wholly owned Australian subsidiary of Malaysia-based engineering and infrastructure conglomerate Gamuda Berhad, has officially entered into an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with MEH SubCo Pty Ltd (as trustee for the MEH Project Trust) for the delivery of Stage 1 of the Mortlake Energy Hub in Victoria, Australia. Under the terms of the agreement, the awarded contract carries a total sum of AUD 790 million, subject to foreign exchange adjustments upon reaching financial close. Additionally, both commercial entities expect to execute an allied Operation and Maintenance (O&M) agreement valued at AUD 45 million within one month of the initial announcement, further extending the operational engagement between the involved parties.
The scope of work for the Mortlake Energy Hub (Stage 1) entails full design, procurement, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of a major 300MW hybrid renewable energy facility. The development encompasses a 435MWp solar generation system alongside a 1,449MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), designed to connect directly into Australia's existing 500kV power transmission grid via the Mortlake Terminal Station. Initial preliminary activities will commence immediately under a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) issued on September 29, 2026, allowing Gamuda Engineering to execute crucial project-enabling works. The main Notice to Proceed (NTP) remains subject to MEH SubCo achieving final financial close, targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, with the overall contract duration spanning approximately two years toward an expected final completion date in January 2029.
This strategic award marks a significant milestone in expanding regional clean energy infrastructure and underscores the growing demand for large-scale hybrid utility assets that combine solar generation with utility-scale energy storage. By integrating a 1,449MWh BESS alongside solar assets, the Mortlake Energy Hub directly addresses power grid stability challenges caused by renewable intermittent generation, ensuring reliable power feed into Victoria's high-voltage 500kV network. As global power markets transition toward decarbonization targets, integrated hybrid projects serving as dispatchable baseload energy are becoming critical assets for regional grid operators and private infrastructure investors seeking resilient long-term yields.
For Gamuda Berhad, securing this major capital award substantially strengthens its international order book and accelerates its strategic expansion within the Australian sustainable infrastructure sector. MEH SubCo Pty Ltd serves as the specialized project vehicle managing the development of the Mortlake Energy Hub, while Gamuda Berhad stands as one of Southeast Asia's leading engineering, construction, and property development corporations with an established footprint across regional infrastructure projects. The contract is anticipated to contribute positively to Gamuda Group's revenue and earnings profiles throughout the two-year delivery period, highlighting the commercial viability of multinational EPC contractors capturing market share in Australia's rapidly evolving energy transition ecosystem.
