The GCAP Agency acts as the central management body for the Global Combat Air Programme on behalf of the UK, Italy, and Japan, while Edgewing serves as the joint industrial design authority tasked with driving the aircraft's delivery by 2035. This substantial award follows an initial GBP 686 million allocation granted earlier in April 2026.
Advancing into the detailed engineering phase represents a critical operational milestone in developing sovereign defense technologies for the participating nations.
