UNITED KINGDOM —GE Aerospace is advancing a GBP 30 million capital investment to expand and modernise its aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility located in Prestwick. The initiative forms part of a broader GBP 57 million funding framework designed to enhance production capacity and operational workflows.
The capital injection is heavily supported by public sector partnerships, including GBP 27 million secured via the Ayrshire Growth Deal alongside a planned GBP 6 million commitment from Scottish Enterprise. The project centers on the construction of a new 55,000 square foot building, aimed at optimising logistics and floor layout to manage rising long-term global customer demand.
This development is crucial for maintaining regional competitiveness within the UK aerospace manufacturing and service sector. By modernising infrastructure, the facility aims to alleviate capacity constraints across commercial engine servicing networks, ensuring adherence to strict turnaround timelines required by international carriers.
The expansion directly impacts the United Kingdom aerospace supply chain, local engineering ecosystems, and technical education providers. Additionally, GE Aerospace has allocated funding toward local apprenticeship programs and training equipment at Ayrshire College, addressing broader regional skill shortages in high-tech manufacturing.
For investors and commercial aviation stakeholders, the project signals steady capacity growth in engine maintenance infrastructure. The planned integration of advanced operational workflows by the first quarter of 2028 is expected to drive long-term operational efficiencies and support approximately 150 new skilled employment opportunities over the next five years.
GE Aerospace is a global leader in commercial and military aircraft propulsion, systems, and services, operating an extensive installed base of engines worldwide with a history spanning over a century of innovation in aerospace engineering.
