GE Vernova has been contracted by Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited to supply nine 150 MW pumped-storage units for the Upper Sileru hydropower project in Andhra Pradesh. Expected to be operational by 2030, the 1,350 MW facility represents a significant expansion of India’s renewable energy storage infrastructure to support grid stability.

According to official disclosures, GE Vernova has been selected to provide the critical power generation technology for the Upper Sileru pumped-storage hydropower facility in Andhra Pradesh, India. Under the agreement with Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), the manufacturer will deliver nine 150 MW units to support the plant’s 1,350 MW capacity.

The project is scheduled to reach completion by 2030 and will rank as one of the largest installations of its kind in the region. GE Vernova is a global leader in energy technology focused on power, wind, and electrification solutions, while MEIL is a diversified Indian infrastructure firm specializing in major energy and water management projects.

This development is pivotal for the South Asian energy sector as it addresses the growing need for long-duration energy storage. Pumped-storage technology serves as a vital tool for grid stabilization, allowing operators to store excess renewable energy and release it during periods of peak demand. By facilitating the integration of intermittent solar and wind power, this project directly supports India's decarbonization objectives and enhances regional energy security.

For industrial stakeholders and investors, the scale of this contract underscores the accelerating capital expenditure in India’s renewable energy infrastructure. The move signals a robust market for advanced hydroelectric equipment and highlights the strategic importance of Andhra Pradesh as a hub for large-scale storage initiatives. As India seeks to modernize its power grid, such projects provide a template for public-private collaboration in achieving long-term sustainability goals.
