INDIA —Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has awarded a prestigious contract to GK Energy Limited for the deployment of a 150 MW / 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across Maharashtra. Secured through a competitive e-reverse auction under the utility's Tariff-Based Global Competitive Bidding framework, the project carries a tariff of ₹2,38,000 per MW per month, translating to an annual revenue of ₹428.40 Million over a 15-year operational period.
This landmark contract represents a vital expansion for GK Energy as it transitions into a comprehensive decentralised clean energy infrastructure provider. Historically recognised for leadership in solar-powered agricultural pumping systems, the company is diversifying its portfolio to include rooftop solar and large-scale energy storage. Integrating storage solutions directly addresses the intermittent nature of renewable generation, ensuring enhanced grid stability and round-the-clock power availability during peak demand periods.
The project aligns seamlessly with India's ambitious long-term clean energy and decarbonisation mandates. As renewable penetration scales up nationally, advanced battery energy storage infrastructure becomes indispensable for balancing intermittent supply and mitigating grid congestion. By augmenting storage capabilities alongside distributed generation, public utilities are increasingly relying on private sector execution to fortify grid resilience.
For investors and industry stakeholders, this development underscores GK Energy's strategic pivot toward multi-vertical scalability, mitigating single-scheme dependencies. By leveraging its extensive field execution network and robust logistics architecture across multiple states, the company is well-positioned to capture emerging high-growth opportunities within India's evolving energy transition landscape.
