Global Ship Lease has finalized a $1 billion, seven-year syndicated loan facility priced at a 1.5% margin over SOFR. The oversubscribed credit arrangement involves a globally diversified banking syndicate and will fund scheduled newbuilding deliveries through 2030.

GREECE —Global Ship Lease has successfully finalized a $1 billion, seven-year syndicated credit facility structured to support its ongoing fleet expansion initiatives. The financing carries an interest margin of 1.5% over the Secured Overnight Financing Rate and is designed to be drawn in tranches aligned with the delivery schedule of 15 previously announced newbuildings spanning from late 2008 through 2030. Each vessel is committed to time charter contracts that commence immediately upon delivery, ensuring structured alignment between capital deployment and operational cash flow generation.

The financing agreement was orchestrated through an eight-member international banking syndicate featuring prominent financial institutions spanning multiple continents. Bank of America acted as bookrunner, mandated lead arranger, facility agent, and security agent, alongside mandated lead arrangers including Bank of China (Hong Kong), KfW IPEX-Bank, and ABN AMRO. Additional participation was secured from CTBC Bank, CaixaBank, Bank of Communications (Hong Kong), and First Citizens Bank.

Global Ship Lease is an independent containership owner and lessor that operates a diversified fleet of mid-sized and smaller vessels chartered out to major container liner companies under fixed-rate agreements. Incorporated in the Marshall Islands, the firm maintains its operational presence in Athens and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

The transaction underscores strong market appetite for maritime asset-backed debt from top-tier institutional lenders, reflecting significant compression in borrowing costs compared to previous years. By structuring tranches directly to vessel deployment and long-term charter coverage, the company mitigates near-term refinancing risks while expanding its capital availability for modern vessel acquisitions.
