Greece's Public Power Corporation has expanded its footprint into Central Europe by acquiring a 277.3 MW wind and solar portfolio in Poland from EDP Renewables, advancing its strategy to double installed capacity by 2030.

Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC) is the primary electricity utility in Greece, operating across power generation, distribution, and retail supply while actively expanding its renewable energy footprint across Southeastern and Central Europe. In line with its long-term corporate growth objectives, the company has entered the Polish energy market by reaching an agreement to acquire a 277.3 MW wind and solar energy portfolio from EDP Renewables Polska.

The portfolio acquired in Poland consists of 175.4 MW of operational wind and solar assets alongside 101.9 MW of solar projects currently under development. The operational component includes three wind farms totaling 130.5 MW and two solar parks accounting for 44.9 MW. The remaining capacity under development comprises two solar projects scheduled for completion in 2029, which will share existing electrical grid connections with wind facilities through cable pooling infrastructure. According to company disclosures, the completion of the transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.

This transaction marks a key strategic milestone for the Greek power provider, extending its regional presence beyond its core markets in Greece and Romania into Central Europe. The development aligns with the utility’s broader strategic roadmap, which entails a €24 billion investment plan aimed at increasing total installed capacity from 12.4 GW to 24.3 GW by 2030. Expanding into Poland enables the group to diversify its power generation sources geographically and technologically, mitigating operational risks associated with single-market exposure.

The acquisition highlights growing cross-border consolidation and capital deployment within the European clean energy sector. Poland represents a key target for renewable energy investments due to its ambitious national transition targets, which aim for renewable sources to generate over half of its total electricity by 2030. Furthermore, the integration of cable pooling technology—supported by Poland's regulatory framework—allows investors to optimize grid infrastructure usage by combining complementary wind and solar generation, setting a operational benchmark for multi-technology clean energy expansion in the region.
