FINLAND —The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (FTIA) has formally commissioned Nordic civil engineering specialist GRK Infra Plc to execute extensive transport network upgrades in Espoo, Finland, under a contract valued at approximately EUR 27 million. The agreement, officially executed on September 30, 2026, will be reflected in GRK’s order backlog for the third quarter of 2026. Designed to modernise major arterial connections, the scope of work covers the construction of new connecting ramps between Helsinki, Ring Road I, Keilaniemi, and Hanko, along with the complete replacement of the Tapiola crossing bridge, structural repairs to the northern and southern Tapiola crossing bridges, and extensive rehabilitation of seven bridges situated along Länsiväylä. Civil construction activities will start in autumn 2026, with full project completion scheduled for November 2028.
As a national transport authority, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (FTIA) manages Finland’s railway, road, and waterway networks to foster sustainable transport solutions and regional economic development. Operating across Finland, Sweden, and Estonia with approximately 1,200 multi-disciplinary professionals, GRK Infra Plc provides end-to-end infrastructure services spanning highway construction, railway engineering, bridge building, environmental technology, and power grid deployment.
The target construction area at the junction of Ring Road I and Länsiväylä serves as one of the most heavily trafficked transportation corridors in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and throughout Finland. Upgrading this vital bottleneck is essential to alleviating persistent urban congestion, elevating road safety standards, and ensuring resilient heavy transport logistics across the capital region. Executing multi-faceted bridge replacements and ramp additions within an operational, high-density traffic ecosystem requires complex phase-management to minimize commuter disruptions and maintain continuous traffic flow.
For regional commerce and real estate developments in the expanding Keilaniemi and Tapiola business districts, the enhanced accessibility directly strengthens commercial transit efficiency and regional productivity. The project underscores a growing reliance on experienced infrastructure contractors capable of delivering high-stakes urban civil engineering solutions under tight operational conditions, offering long-term reliability for local transport networks and supporting sustained economic growth across Finnish industrial sectors.
