The Gujarat government has ordered 34 new metro train sets to strengthen urban rail operations in Ahmedabad and support the upcoming Surat Metro system. The procurement aims to improve service frequency, reduce passenger waiting times, and expand capacity across the state’s rapidly growing urban transit networks.

The Government of Gujarat has commissioned 34 additional metro train sets to enhance public transport capacity across two major urban rail systems.

According to official disclosures, the order includes 10 train sets for the Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II network and 24 train sets designated for the developing Surat Metro system. The rolling stock is being manufactured at a facility operated by Titagarh Rail Systems in Kolkata.

Ahmedabad’s metro network has already seen significant expansion, with both Phase-I and Phase-II operational. The Phase-II corridor connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar spans approximately 68.2 km and currently operates with 32 train sets. The new trains are expected to increase operational frequency and reduce passenger waiting times, addressing growing ridership demand across the metropolitan region.

The development reflects broader infrastructure investment trends in India’s urban transport sector, where state governments are expanding mass transit systems to address congestion, population growth, and environmental concerns. Additional capacity in Ahmedabad is expected to improve commuter efficiency, while the allocation for Surat supports the rollout of a new metro network in one of Gujarat’s fastest-growing industrial cities.

Titagarh Rail Systems, an Indian manufacturer of railway rolling stock and mobility equipment, supplies metro coaches and freight wagons for domestic and international markets. The order underscores ongoing opportunities for rail equipment manufacturers and infrastructure contractors as India accelerates metro rail deployment across major urban centers.
