INDIA —In a notable expansion of regional grid infrastructure in Western India, Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) has selected Om Power Transmission Limited (OPTL) to construct a major power transmission facility. Under the terms of the newly awarded letter of intent, the contractor will handle the complete engineering, procurement, and construction scope for the 220kV Kotda-Sanghani air-insulated substation. The project carries an aggregate contract value of INR 604.85 million, inclusive of applicable taxes, and is slated for completion within 18 months from the official award date.
The comprehensive turnkey agreement encompasses the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of high-voltage 220kV and 66kV electrical equipment and associated materials. In addition to core electrical installation, Om Power Transmission is tasked with executing all associated civil engineering works required to bring the substation into full operation. The award stems from a domestic public utility procurement process and involves no related-party transactions or promoter group conflicts of interest.
Established in Gujarat, Om Power Transmission Limited (OPTL) is an Indian infrastructure enterprise specializing in turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for high-voltage power transmission lines and substations across domestic power distribution networks. Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) operates as the state transmission utility responsible for maintaining, expanding, and optimizing the high-voltage electrical grid across Gujarat.
This infrastructural development serves a critical role in strengthening energy reliability and transmission capacity in Gujarat's industrial and rural power corridors. Upgrading sub-transmission network capacity to 220kV/66kV levels directly mitigates regional transmission bottlenecks, reduces technical line losses, and supports seamless power wheeling for commercial and industrial end-users. Such utility investments underscore the sustained public capital expenditure in India's electrical distribution grid to accommodate growing baseload demand and integrate renewable power sources.
From a market perspective, the project reinforces order book visibility for medium-sized power infrastructure contractors operating within domestic transmission and distribution markets. For industrial stakeholders and local manufacturing hubs, enhanced grid stability in Kotda-Sanghani reduces operational downtime risk and improves power quality, offering positive economic spillovers for regional commerce and industrial productivity.
