Gulf Development and Singtel Group have partnered to invest in cross-border subsea cable systems, beginning with the Vietnam-Thailand-Singapore line, to build critical bandwidth and support expanding regional cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

THAILAND; SINGAPORE Cross-border digital connectivity across Southeast Asia is set for expansion as Gulf Development and Singtel Group initiate a joint investment strategy targeting regional submarine cable infrastructure. The foundational project under this alliance is participation in the Vietnam-Thailand-Singapore (VTS) Cable System, which will create a direct undersea data route linking Thai and Singaporean network hubs. Anticipated to become operational by 2030, capital expenditure for the system will be distributed across a multi-year development cycle. Operational execution and commercial rollout will leverage the regional reach of Singtel Singapore and Thai telecommunications provider Advanced Info Service.

This infrastructural expansion directly addresses the surging bandwidth demands triggered by rapid adoption of cloud computing, enterprise artificial intelligence, and regional data center construction. By establishing secondary, high-capacity routes, the project mitigates network congestion and enhances data redundancy between major economic hubs. Thailand continues to draw substantial international capital for data hosting facilities, making resilient subsea connections vital for maintaining low-latency data transfers. Simultaneously, the additional capacity reinforces Singapore's position as the primary digital transit and interconnection gateway for Southeast Asia.

The deployment of robust subsea infrastructure provides essential backbone capacity for hyperscalers, cloud service providers, and multinational enterprises operating in the Asia-Pacific region. As digital service reliance grows, reliable physical transmission networks are becoming key determinants of regional economic competitiveness. Beyond the initial subsea cable route, the alliance creates a framework for future joint capital deployment into supplementary terrestrial links and broader telecom assets, offering investors and enterprise users greater network diversity and operational security.

Gulf Development Public Company is a Thailand-listed conglomerate operating across energy, logistics, and digital infrastructure sectors, with an expanding portfolio of renewable energy and telecommunications investments globally. Singapore Telecommunications Limited is an Asian communications technology group providing fixed, mobile, data center, and digital services across Asia, Australia, and Africa.
